The above phrase is used by many companies to describe their version of profession services. 

Did you know that only 40% of the hardware / software companies have a Professional Services Group.   Out of the 40%, only 5% have their own consulting staff to perform the work.

Take this a step further, Off Shore resources only cost $3.89 per hour for a basic Unix type or $56.00 all inclusive if you bring him here. 

I recent project our founder was involved in consisted of four such resources and one US based Consultant.  The four offshore resources combined could not even product 1/4 of the work the Consultant could.  This was documented in the daily status reports to the client. 

Before you hire a staffing agency, ask your local consulting company for a quote.  You may be surprise to find them more affordable than you were lead on to believe.

Vendor managers truly cut up-front cost, however in the long run you as a company spend more time, energy and capital using Vendor Managers and Staffing agencies, verses actually using a consulting firm upfront. Just some thoughts!
